Dear Shipmates,

We regret to inform you of the death of a compatriot. This was sent courtesy of John Bartleson.

PASSING OF A SHIPMATE

An E-Mail Update from the President Navy EOD Association

Robert "Bones" Daley

Here are parts of e-mails that Mrs. Gertrude Daley sent to me:

I am writing to you because you helped me before to get the word out for prayers.  The family of Robert A. (Bones) Daley sent out the word that he passed away on Monday October 14, 2013.  It was also the birthday of our daughter Kim.  We know that he is in heaven with her.  We are very happy his suffering has ended.  Thank you very much for your help.

Bob is going to be buried in Arlington.  There is a wait of at least 3-4 months.  As soon as I'm informed as to when, I will pass along the word to you.

[signed] Gertrude Daley

Robert "Bones" Daley address is:
Robert Daley
2310 Bonnie View Ct
Leesburg, FL 34788-7656

352-253-0847

Many of you knew Bones and many of you were friends with his family.  Mr. and Mrs. Daley made a great team and Bob will be missed by many Navy EOD warriors and his entire family.  God bless all of them.

HAVE YOU BEEN EXPOSED TO AGENT ORANGE?

Joe Beetar has provided  link to the VA that provides a list of ships (and crew) that may have been exposed to Agent Orange. If you suspect that you have a claim and have not yet filed for disability, please check this list.

DO YOU HAVE AN AOM LAPEL BADGE?

Just about everyone attending the 2013 Reunion in Whidbey Island had a distinctive name tag. These catchy devices were hand-made through the courtesy of Toby Horn. (Not all of them had Derick Hartshorn's name on them)

Toby recently offered to make some for delivery at the 2014 Charleston reunion if members/spouses want one.  He needs the name of those who want it on the tag. The cost is a $10 contribution (deductible, to AOM (general or scholarship fund) payable to Mike Femrite.  If you want to include a photo, let Toby know ( email address, subject "name tag") and he'll try to scan for you. The cut-off date is 30 June 2014. There'll be some extras to take to reunion for the $10.

A TARTAN PLAID FOR AOM

AOM member, Phil Smith, has offered to design a tartan, exclusively for AOM. The Scottish tartan has played an important role in military life of both Scots and non-Scots. Phil is one of six world-wide members of  "The Guild of Tartan Scholars," recognized as such by The Scottish Tartans Authority. From them, he has received one of the very few "Life-time Achievement Awards."

We'll be keeping you posted on further developments.

AUCTION AT 2013 REUNION

Auctioneer Toby Horn with Paul Santa Maria seeking bidders.

As most of you are aware, an auction is conducted on the last day of our annual reunions. The proceeds go to the AOM scholarship fund. This year, we did quite well and many needy college (or pre-college) students will get a head start on their educational expenses thanks to the generosity of AOM members. For full details on how we did, read the next copy of the DASHPOT.

Respectfully submitted.
